More Practical With QRIS: How to Create, Use and Terms

Advances in technology are very beneficial and make it easier for people in terms of life, especially in economic life. One example is the Qris application.

Bank Indonesia (BI) has launched the Quick Response (QR) Code standard for payments through server-based electronic money applications, electronic wallets, or mobile banking, called QR Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS).

With QRIS, it is possible for everyone who has a means of payment, from e-wallet to mobile banking, to make transactions.

What is QRIS?

Quoted from the official website of Bank Indonesia, QRIS is the unification of various kinds of QR from various Payment System Service Providers (PJSP) using a QR Code.

Developed by the payment system industry together with Bank Indonesia so that the transaction process with the QR Code can be easier, faster, and secure.

For this reason, all Payment System Service Providers who will use QR Code Payments must implement QRIS.

Now, by using QRIS, all payment applications from any provider, whether bank or non-bank, can be used by the public.

This payment system can be used in all shops, merchants, stalls, parking lots, tourist tickets, donations (merchants) with the QRIS logo, even though the QRIS provider at merchants is different from the application provider used by the public.

So, merchants only need to open an account or an account with one of the QRIS providers that has been licensed by Bank Indonesia.

After that, merchants can accept payments from the public using QR from any application that is hosted.

How to pay using QRIS

  • Consumers can choose and download payment applications installed on their mobile phones.
  • Furthermore, the consumer registers with one of the payment system service providers (PJSP) and ensures the availability of balances to make transactions.
  • Through the application, the consumer then scans the QRIS at the merchant, enters the transaction amount, and authorizes the transaction.
  • Confirm payment to the provider of goods or services.

How to get QRIS for Merchants

  • If you don't have an account, open it first by coming to a branch office or registering online at one of the registered QRIS providers PJSP
  • Complete the business data and documents requested by the PJSP
  • Wait for the verification process, creating a Merchant ID and printing a QRIS code by PJSP
  • PJSP will send a QRIS sticker
  • Install the application as a QRIS merchant.
  • PJSP provides education to merchants regarding procedures for receiving payments.

Requirements to become a QRIS organizer

All QR Code operators must obtain Bank Indonesia approval to implement QR-based services and refer to the applicable provisions regarding QRIS.

The main requirements include system and application reliability, ability to identify and mitigate risk, ability to protect customers such as easy dispute resolution.

Furthermore, namely the ability to monitor transactions at qualified merchants and customers as well as the correct customer and merchant registration process.

QRIS itself has three types of payment methods, namely:

1. Static Merchant Presented Mode (MPM) This type of method has the easiest procedure, merchants simply display one sticker or print-out QRIS and it's free.

Users only scan, enter the nominal, enter the PIN and click pay. Then, the transaction notification is immediately received by the user or merchant.

2. Dynamic Merchant Presented Mode (MPM) For the Dynamic type, QR will be issued via a device such as an EDC machine or smartphone and free of charge.

QRIS MPM Dynamic is very suitable for merchants of medium and large scale businesses or with high transaction volumes.

3. Customer Presented Mode (CPM)

The customer simply shows the QRIS displayed from the customer's payment application to be scanned by the merchant.

The QRIS CPM method is more intended for merchants who require high transaction speeds such as transportation, parking and modern retail providers.

QRIS Benefits

1. For Payment app Users:

  • Fast and modern
  • No need to bother carrying cash anymore
  • No need to bother thinking about whose QR is installed
